Steve Meldrum

Steve Meldrum was always fascinated by money and trade having grown up in a family of seven kids.

His parents were school teachers who knew that providing for seven kids was an important task. His biggest inspiration was a scout leader who happened to be a financial planner who had freedom and had a good living, but he always had the time to help people.

Steve’s education experience includes a year of college in what is now Brigham Young University-Idaho in the US. Some of the courses he took included biology, education, and economics. He realized he favoured economics a little more, which led him to a commerce degree at the University of Lethbridge. He even went on a Religious mission for the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter-Day Saints and took an international program in Guadalajara, Mexico! After he received his degree, he took a 28-day Canadian Securities Course, a Certified Financial Planner Course, and a Chartered Life Underwriter Course. His first job cleaning, sweeping, and hauling drywall gave him the determination to succeed in his future career.

What brought him to finance was all the confusion surrounding it and trying to dispel the myths. Getting to the core of an issue and helping people advance their situation is what led to Steve separating from the pack in 2014 to start Swell Private Wealth: a company that would be specialized and could do things right the first time.

A contrarian who looks at problems in creative ways, he loves helping people and businesses find solutions that others miss. Steve believes that Swell’s duty is to give people sound advice properly and “measure twice and cut once”. His straightforward and honest approach helps clients make the best decisions, which helps save them time and energy both now and in the future. He also loves ultra-light backcountry hiking and tacos. Steve loves tacos so much that he requests they be served at his funeral.

At the end of the day, Steve’s motto is to “trust and verify” before you make important decisions.
